Alternative Feedstocks and Supply Chains to Meet the Growing Demand for Sustainable Raw Materials
The growing demand for raw materials of natural origin for the textile and other industries has led us to focus on both the full use of agricultural resources and recycling. There are abundant untapped sources of cellulose in various biomass waste streams that provide a low-cost feedstock alternative for cellulose extraction and a value-added route for utilisation.
The session "Alternative Feedstocks and Supply Chains" will present new approaches to sustainable raw materials for nonwovens, composites and textiles. These range from industrial hemp residues and jute coffee sacks to lignocellulosic waste from the food industry, such as Distiller's Spent Grains (DSG). Hemp is also at the centre of the development of innovative bio-based and thermoformable natural fibre reinforced plastics for the production of structural components in various applications. We look forward to the speakers on the second day of the conference. |

Cellulose Fibre Innovation of the Year 2024: Nominated Innovations Range from Resource-efficient and Recycled Fibres for Textiles and Building Panels to Geotextiles for Glacier Protection
Six award nominees present innovative and sustainable solutions for various industries in the cellulose fibre value chain. The full economic potential of the cellulose fibre industry will be introduced to a wide audience that will vote for the winners in Cologne (Germany), and online.
Year after year nova-Institute grants the “Cellulose Fibre Innovation of the Year” award in the context of the “Cellulose Fibres Conference”, that will take place in Cologne on 13 and 14 March 2024. In advance, the conferences advisory board nominated six remarkable products, including cellulose fibres from textile waste and straw, a novel technology for dying cellulose-based textiles and a construction panel as well as geotextiles. The innovations will be presented by the companies on the first day of the event. All conference participants can vote for one of the six nominees and the top three winners will be honoured with the “Cellulose Fibre Innovation of the Year” award. The Innovation award is sponsored by GIG Karasek (AT). |
