Supply Chain Innovation Inspired by Nature

Unlike synthetic fibres, cellulosic materials readily absorb water, making them susceptible to bacterial and microbial growth. This session will showcase the functionalisation of cellulosic nonwovens by developing the water repellence and antimicrobial performance of bio-based cellulosic nonwovens, inspired by nature. Find out how to learn from nature and solve problems with research using the lotus leaf effect, which creates a rough surface like that of the lotus leaf.

The next level of absorbent products presented at the session improves the comfort of users of hygiene absorbent products. The technology is mainly based on cellulose and shows how liquids are distributed against gravity in the absorbent core. This is a revolutionary change after two decades of diaper technology and performance.

Last but not least, the session will present a unique mechanical process suitable for all types of cellulosic raw materials, from wood pulp to agricultural waste streams, as a replacement for cotton. This technology brings better environmental performance than cotton and offers a drop-in solution for the industry and brands looking for sustainable circular materials for textiles.
